Dr
Ho Law Dr Ho Chung Law is a Doctor of Philosophy
and Chartered Psychologist and Founder of Peterborough School
or Art(s) - 'The Cutting Edge'.
Ho Law lives in Peterborough but was born in Hong Kong. Through
his dislocated experience in England, Ho has re-discovered
the value of his Chinese heritage. His new chinese calligraphy
in an abstract form of visual poems, expresses in contemporary
medium - using acrylic on paper or computer language with
digital images. It reflects the diversity of this new dual
cultural heritage. The idea is that every word has a picture
and every picture is a part of a story (a bigger picture)
everyone has a role to play (from the workshop) that is the
spirit of diversity, and citizenship in the society.
Ho Law went to an Artists
Retreat to Jamaica in summer 2003 and did the fieldwork to
explore the history and process of migration (cross-cultural
journey) of the communities in Jamaica, particularly as it
relates to the indigenous Chinese in Jamaica. Apart from the
Chinese community of the Caribbean, Ho is also researching
Chinese communities living in the UK where they have made
this island their home.
Recently, Dr Law has done 10 workshops for local schools as part of the artist in residency for Peterborough Digital Art.
Testimonials from previous workshops:
"At the end of thiny - 10 out of 10! It was really interesting and I enjoyed it very much. I feel I have learned a lot from it and cannot wait till next week." Jack (Student, Deacons School)
"Hello Ho, I was completely mystified by the similarities within our cultural identity and our traditional histories. The exhibition 'HOME' was very stimulating and brought back a lot of past memories of our cultural heritage. Thank you and your team for such beautiful research, documented evidence of home life, past struggles and the aspiration to celebrate and overcome barriers for the future generation. It is like you were writing the history of any one's own family life, then using photography to show the visual images as evidence. Again I would like to repeat and express my gratitude to a wonderful piece of history. I hope that other visitors will appreciate the enormous effort that everyone contributed to this exhibition at Peterborough Museum and Art Gallery for the month long event. Regards" Peggie Price 17/9/2004.
"It was amazing to see your work. I liked the way you presented about the concept of Home. More understanding about the thought of artists. Thank you. I am looking forward to participating your lesson again." Carol.
"Unique 10 out of 10. As usual 'subliminal' ref points for those transposed 'dots' in time + space. Thank you."
"Enjoyable, well presented and learnt a lot. The talk was also informative."
"It had been a great and interesting experience to connect words into artistic languages. Would encourage more and more people to join the workshop in future as a treat for themselves. I was impressed by the creativity and enthusiasm of all artists and proud of you all"! Catherine.
